I'm excited to share this new book, The Heart of Prayer: The Essential Guide to Knowing God Through Prayer.
Though I grew up in the Church, it wasn't until about six years ago, when I asked the Holy Spirit into my life, that I was awakened to the truth that God is ever-present and alive.
This realization kindled a fire inside me to know God, and I found the best way was through prayer and Scripture. I had always been intimidated by prayer. I'd hear others pray and wondered how they could sound so eloquent and lovely. But as I began a relationship with God, I found that prayer flowed from the heart. It wasn't flowery words, but honest, heartfelt devotion put into words as best as one is able.
Like the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 12:12, we are part of the body of Christ. As I thought about the things that make up the body, I thought of the heart. We cannot live without a heartbeat. So when we pray, it's a heart-to-heart conversation with Christ, and we connect to his very heart.
To know God's heart is the impetus of this book. I hope this book will be a good resource for you or someone you know to begin a journey of your own with the God who loves you. Through prayer and Scripture, the goodness of God is revealed, and transformation can occur.
If you know me, you know I'm a very practical person, so this book is straightforward. The first section of the book is foundational. Anyone of any denomination is reminded of the nature of God and the power of the Holy Trinity. It also outlines what prayer is and what Scripture says about the importance of the heart. The second part outlines practical steps of prayer and what to talk to God about in your prayer time. The four key areas are listed below:
Discipline: Set Aside Time to Devote Your Heart to Prayer
Praise: Align Your Heart through Worship and Thanksgiving
Honesty: Open Your Heart through Humility, Repentance, and Forgiveness
Experience: Grow Your Heart through Listening, Discerning, and Trusting
These days are complicated, and I know I've had to lean on Christ every moment of every day to get through the challenges that come at me in my life. A relationship with God through prayer has been my saving grace, and I pray that this book would be a way to help others grow in a relationship with God through prayer.
If you know anyone seeking God or how to pray, this is a great resource that I pray would transform their lives. If you feel so inclined, please share this book with others. We need hope; we need more prayer; we need Jesus.
Books are not for the faint of heart; it is all work with a lot of investment. I do not do this for any other reason than to share the goodness of God in hopes that this will inspire others to fall in love with Jesus, going deeper in their prayer life and finding the everlasting joy that exists in Christ.
May God bless each reader, in Jesus' name, Amen.
